He Was Able to Receive A Complete Smile

I can tell my teeth were loosening, that I had bad breath. I had a lot of symptoms that told me that I needed to go get some help. And Dr. Barden looked at my teeth, he did some analysis, and basically came back with, “Hey, if you’ve got bacteria in your bone, bacteria in your gums, you’re going to lose it all. We need to come up with a plan.”

The process started with basically extracting teeth that needed to be extracted. And when he looked at it, he said, “We might as well do them all.” I had dentures, but they didn’t work for me. So I just hung around six to eight months, doing my job without anything in my mouth, eating a lot of soup. Quite frankly, that did me very well because dentures ruin your bone, anyway. About the eighth month or whatever, we started looking at the implants. Now, the implants was a different procedure, of course, that they drill into the bone, they put the implants in. I needed I don’t know if it was five on the top, four on the bottom, something to that effect. And those implants were going to have a bar that received a clip-on denture, which means instead of the denture just floating around in your mouth, it’s actually clipped onto a bar that’s then screwed into your implants. And what that did was allow me a lot more time to heal internally.

At the end of the day, I mean, I feel like I’m brand new. I mean, I can eat a steak. I keep very religiously cleaning around them. I have a Waterpik toothbrush. But, basically, at the end of the day, it was a lengthy process for me. I think it was a good process because it allowed my bone to heal. It allowed my bone probably zero bacteria today. And it also allowed my gums to heal. Those were the most important because if those don’t, then your implants don’t take. So I know now, and he knows now, that my implants have taken because of the fact that he’s done a lot of hard work in there and they don’t budge. His process was the right process. Had I chosen somebody else, I may not be where I’m at today, so I’m very glad that I chose coming here. Quite frankly, I feel great. I mean, I can smile, laugh, eat, have a very good conversation without my tongue lisping, things to that nature, so I’m happy.

Dr. Barden’s chairside manner is very thorough. He’s very professional. He asks a lot of questions, he explained everything that he’s going to do and what he has to do and what he’s seen in x-rays or the 3D imagery. So it’s pretty nice that he explained everything in layman’s terms. The staff, their professionalism and their kindness that they have and the dentist are really well. They’re very thorough at what they do, and they pay attention to what’s going on. So if they’re hurting you, they realize they’re hurting you before you have to say anything. So that makes it nice. Basically, they’re easy to deal with. I’ve had a lot of dentists that I didn’t like for that reason, they care about their patients here, so that’s why I like it. I’ve explained to a lot of friends and family already that if they looking for somebody that cares about their wellbeing and their smile and the overall health of their mouth, then Dr. Barden is the right man to choose.

I needed to have a couple of teeth removed, and I needed to have a root canal. So I have implants on the bottom on this side, and he’s finishing up implants on this side. And then we’ll go from there and see what else needs to be done. It was obvious that they needed to be taken care of, but he, as you say, he educated me. He said, “We can do this, or we can do that.”
And I said, “Well, what do you recommend?” And he would tell me which of the choices he thought would be best for me. And I always went with whatever he said, because I know he’s honest, and I knew he would do a good job. They always bring me a blanket more because I’m cold-natured, and they just make me comfortable. And they don’t leave you sitting alone in the room and wondering what’s gonna happen next.
They stay with you, and that’s very, very helpful. I couldn’t be happier. It’s just, it’s beautiful. The pain was minimal because of their quality of work here, especially the doctors. I’m perfectly satisfied with the work. I wish I had done it earlier, but I didn’t. And so he’s made the difference.

If it was one word, I would say satisfied just because the whole experience has always been good and they’ve always been attentive to my needs and worked to get me in. Even when it wasn’t convenient for them, they worked to help me because I feel like their work is about serving me as the customer. And sometimes doctors and lawyers forget about that.

The process really started with Dr. Birch and he tried everything that he could do to, I guess, not let me get to the point where I needed implants or was going to go to implants. Again, I guess because of my age being in my 60s and because of the issues I have with the bacteria, didn’t work. And I mean, they gave me the option. They said we can keep doing this, you know, replacing a tooth, capping a tooth, whatever, you know, whatever it is, but it’s going to be constant. And like I mentioned to you before, I don’t want to keep doing that. I don’t want to keep coming in here on a monthly basis.
So they gave me my options on what I could do. Took me through my options, explained the pluses, the minuses to each, and let me make my decision, which I did. Dr. Barden went through that the last time I was in here. He recommended some things that I could do. I’m currently, and this started a couple months ago, at night, after I brush my teeth, I am using a water pick with six drops of bleach in it, which obviously kills the bacteria. Apparently my gums were not the color they should have been a couple months ago. According to Kristy, my gums have gone from being deep red to exactly the color they’re supposed to be.
And then Dr. Barden said that prior to the actual process of putting in the implants, he’s going to go through with me what I need to do. He said because it’s critical, what you do after the implants are put in are going to determine in a large part how successful it is. You know, I’ve had some surgeries in my life before where you meet the doctor once at the office, they make a diagnosis, and the next time you see him, it’s after the operation, when he comes in to see how you’re doing. So that is kind of raises your anxiety because you don’t know that doctor. You’re just, you have hope and faith that he’s doing the right thing. Where here, I have no doubt that Dr. Birch and Dr. Barden are gonna do the right things and they’re not going to do anything above and beyond what they need to do or cut any corners.
